half a day in Warsaw
Warsaw is a very interesting city indeed. This was my second time visiting this city, first one twelve years ago (I know, it's been a while). There are bunch of beautiful old architectural buildings mixed with contemporary skyscrapers made of glass, construction cranes and Poland's signature - advertising posters everywhere. Everything is everywhere, combined into one whole and this is what makes the city colourful.
Sure, Warsaw has such an interesting history throughout the centuries - for instance, did you know that capital from Krakow was moved to Warsaw during Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth times to the country's middle, so it is closer for Lithuanian magnates? If the magnate was from the North of Lithuania, it would take them up to 3 months to get to Krakow!
Warsaw has a bunch of museums to visit, tours with guides that you could join, but what if you are visiting the city only for a couple of hours and want to see the outside of it rather than it in the museums while seeing only a quick glitch of it? Here's what I recommend checking out while taking a walk through the oldtown:
The Royal Castle:
this is the place where the most crowds are, so if you're visiting the Castle later in the afternoon, get prepared. The Castle was completely destroyed during the Second World War and reopened in the late 70s. Also, visiting inside is free on Sundays (as many other places in this city.)
Oldtown:
It is situated nearby the Royal Castle and the buildings surrounding the Castle are definitely worth seeing! Also, bare in mind that 90% of the oldtown was completely destroyed during the WW2 and rebuilt afterwards from the pictures.
Park Lazienki:
Seems like a simple park at the first sight, but on Sundays there is a possibility to enjoy free Chopin concerts!
