things to do in dreamy island of BALI

There are millions of reasons why you should visit Bali at least once (gorgeous nature, crazy parties, delicious local and other SE cuisines), but, the most important reason (at least to me) is that there is always something to do, somewhere to go, wonder around. You can wake up in the morning without a plan for the day; go for a spontaneous ride on your rented scooter and end up having the best time ever!

When first rays of the sun warm your face while you’re still asleep the first thing you could think about is having a cup of Balinese coffee. Waking up in the nature, having your first cup in the views of rice fields, listening to the male lizards trying to attract the females is something that you can only experience in Bali. Later on, you will have your banana pancake for breakfast, get ready, sit on the scooter and go. Where to? Here’s what we did:

RICE TERRACES

They are everywhere. Every single villa in Ubud (cultural centre of Bali) has scenery of rice fields. If you want to wonder around them, go deep down into the villages or simply visit the most famous rice terraces in Tegallalang. Most likely, someone will try to scam you and charge for a fake ticket before entering the fields. Run away from them, because they will ask you to put some money into the charity box – as much as you want – in order to enter the fields. Also, after you are done with your little trek, locals will invite you for a free coffee and tea sampling. And believe, it tastes like a piece of heaven. Tegallalang also has the famous on Instagram swings above rice fields and it costs around five euros.

WATERFALLS

There are thousands of them. Swim-able, high, deep, with no pool, with the slides, with turquoise water, with regular water… You choose which one you would like to experience the most. But, believe me, the beauty of waterfalls (and especially swimming in them!) is amazing.

TEMPLES

Bali is the only island in Indonesia that has Hinduism as its main religion (other islands are Islamic).  There are plenty of kickass pretty and interesting temples to visit in Bali – the ones that are over a thousand years old, the ones that are being built at the moment, the ones that have holy water which makes your skin stay young forever (well, I do not think that works :D). I recommend visiting Goa Gajah temple (once again, there will be scammers who will try to sell you scarves. They will be given for free before entering the temple), which was built in the IX century and has a great variety of Hindu sculptures.

SNORKELING

Bali is great for both snorkelling and scuba diving and there are many people who start taking a diving course in order to dive without instructor. But if you have a tight budget or time, snorkelling is amazing as well! One of the most popular places to snorkel are situated in the East of Bali – White Sand Beach and Blue Lagoon. Just watch out for massive rocks and waves!

BEACHES

Taking a day off from all the craziness, shopping, searching for amazing spots and just lying down on your villa’s towel on the beach is always a great idea. Don’t forget sunscreen, maybe buy some beers and enjoy the waves! My favourite one is White Sand Beach in the East of Bali – it serves great fresh juice and THE MOST DELICIOUS NOODLES EVER. They were so delicious that we had to come back for another portion.
