Christmas fair in Olomouc + Czech beer
Last month I
had a chance to visit my relatives, family and beloved friends back home in
Lithuania. As I couldn’t stay home for Christmas, I celebrated all the winter festives
here in London with my other family :}
Even though
it was such a short stay, my dad and I managed to visit a great country with
even greater variety of beers – Czech Republic! I highly recommend not just a
city we’ve been to for Christmas mood as it has an amazing fair, but the country
itself, which is brilliant for exploring the nature and trying local incredibly
cheap beers!
First of
all, how you guys imagine a perfect Christmas fair what gave me an amazing
winter vibe to look forward for holidays– with a little bit of snow, mulled
wine, Christmas music in the background (in this case it was a local rock band
so I couldn’t understand a word what they were singing about, but the most
incredible fact was that even elderly people were singing out loud every song,
stood up on the tables and started dancing all night long), smell of hot local
food and a Czech goats cheese. It’s a very unique thing which goes perfectly
with the other unique thing Czech people are proud of – beer.
After we got
some Christmas vibes, we went for an expedition to taste as many Czech beers as
possible. Considering that I am not an expert – but a huge fan of this
alcoholic drink – I will create a short list of the Czech beers I’ve tried in
my life and really loved:
-The old and gold, known by probably everyone, is Kozel, especially the dark one – amazing taste! It’s better that you buy the strongest beer, cause Czech people don’t like really high in percentage beer.
- Medové Pivo which has a honey taste. Seriously, it was the best one I’ve tried in this country – never thought beer could go with sweets but here we go.
- Budweiser. Here in London we always drink the American version of this beer which tastes like nothing special. Even though it has a same name but the brands and recipe are completely different in these two countries – the original Budweiser wins in this competition.
- Pilsner Urquell Nefiltrovaný . This is being considered as one of the best beers of Czech Republic. Even though I am not a fan of not filtered beers, this one has an amazing taste!
- Any beer in Czech Republic is amazing and if you‘re a fan you‘ll love any of them that you‘re going to try!

Don’t forget about the nature
of this beautiful Central European country and the architecture even of a small
city! I am planning to visit Prague before I graduate to taste more beers and
of course explore this capital as I’ve never been there before and have a friend
who lives there, hoping she’s gonna be a great travel guide for me!
And what is your opinion on
Czech beer? :}
